The Folkie

Anyone in the know refers to the Port Fairy Folk Festival as the “Folkie”. We had treated each other to tickets for Christmas and we were all looking forward to this family adventure a few weekends ago. But honestly I was anxious. Anxious about all 7of us pushing through crowds, lining up, losing kids and just general festival chaos. Well……what a lovely surprise. I cannot speak highly enough of how it was organised. Everything was clean, family friendly, spacious and easy to get to. Think clean toilets, spacious market stalls, friendly people sitting watching music and kids activities, if you wanted. We loved it.

My personal favourites were AHAB – a great 5 boy band from East London, Krystel Warren – a husky voiced talented African American woman, Ben Sollee – who makes magic work on his cello, Eagle and the Worm – my man’s cousin’s band, a 7 piece young persons ensemble and an old fave, My Friend the Chocolate Cake.

My boys were also inspired by Frigg, Jeff Lang, Adam Cohen, Tripod and the Melbourne Gospel Choir singing Dylan’s songs of faith.¬†We would definitely go again….we would just pray for sunshine!
